[FOWA 2009]: The Future Of HTML5

Bruce Lawson, Opera

Especially curious why it’s called the future of HTML 5, because to me HTML 5 is still in the future anyways (at least for productive use in daily life).

  • HTML5 is the future of web applications.
  • HTML5 will not replace HTML4
  • HTML5 is competition to Flash, SIlverlight, etc.
  • «The web is too important to be left to a single vendor to dominate»
  • Shows demo stuff, like shooter game in HTML5)
  • excanvas.sourceforge.net > makes HTML5 canvas work in IE
  • But: not accessible! is like img-tag without alt-text
  • HTML5 form validation demo, lots of stuff got easier, no call to server nor JS necessary! -> «You’ve done this in 3 minutes and you go to the pub!» My question: Isn’t that easy to crack (download HTML and change) and send corrupt data to server?
  • www.modernizr.com for old browsers
  • www.html5demos.com
  • Local storage, database in the browser

Crowd going crazy for very entertaining session!
