[FOWA]: How to grow and nurture your community
by Kathy Sierra, JavaRanch
- What’s better: This company kicks ass OR This product kicks ass?
- > OR I kick ass? >How can you get users to talk about themselves in connection with your product?
- It’s about the users kicking ass!
- «What did you want to be really, really good at?» > think about how it would feel if somebody could give this to you!
- We’re looking for richer, deeper experiences. That’s e.q. why people climb.
- Get users beyond the «suck threshold» soon!
- Good marketing focuses on what the tool (software) achieves, not the tool itself
- The difference between really good people and not so good people is just practice.
- If we’re willing to put in the effort, we could be great. Brilliant, maybe.
- We assume a musician needs to practice. We also do!
- Experts keep pushing the edges of their abilities. They keep going further.
- Don’t ask: «what problem do you solve?», ask «how do you get your users to kick ass?»
- If user A can out[whatever] user B, you’re on the way
- What does it say about your user when he uses your product?
- Give the users Easter Eggs and «treats». Example: Coldplay’s singer had a bar on his hand in a video > it started conversations all over the web.
- User must do something cool really fast with your products.
