[FOWA]: The Future Of News
by Kevin Rose from Digg, announced as «the internet’s first rock star»
- He wants to talk about what’s been done wrong on Digg at what can be learned from it.
- Problem: 30′000′000 visitors a month on digg.com but only 3′000′000 registered users -> what can be done to make digging a news more rewarding for the user?
- Filters of information: People you know (by email, IM etc) vs The Masses (Digg) > on Digg you get too many informaion you don’t care about
- Digg wants to fill gap with information from “similar users” > based on your digging history similar users are found. Example: You keep digging stories about a certain sports team, you will get similar stories digged by other similar users. > this feature is coming in July 09
- Other result of this feature: the more you digg stories you’re interested in, the more you get informed about other people and other information you propably like > active digging becomes more useful for the user
- Recommendation API: You surf on BBC, BBC may call Digg API and present to the visitor other stories within the BBC website he might like.
PS: Cool thing, there are power plugs all over the place. And I even have my adapter with me :)
PPS: All the FOWA blog entries are actually my live notes. So if you don’t get what I write – sorry!
